THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW: 20th Anniversary Gold CD

THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW:
Original Soundtrack 20th Anniversary Gold CD

*CD*
1995, Ode Sounds And Visuals, R2 7159

This 24K Gold CD release of TRHPS Original Soundtrack was released as part of the 20th Anniversary Special Edition Laserdisc of THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW. This 20th Anniversary CD is a bit different from the standard version of the soundtrack.

First of all, there are clips of dialogue from the film in between each of the songs. Also, 'The Sword Of Damocles' is featured in it's right place on the disc. (Don't be fooled, it's the same old film-dub version from Rocky Horror International, the supplement compilation album offered only in TRHPS 15th Anniversary Box Set.) Also, this disc does NOT feature the two 'The Time Warp' remixes that have been included on all pressings of the soundtrack since 1989.

The sound quality on this disc is pretty good, and it's entertaining to hear the dialogue in between the songs. The CD cover features a rather bland-looking cover, not too much unlike the cover of the special edition laserdisc box. The back of the disc features a track listing, as well as a few stills from the film. The inside CD liner notes only offers cast information, no lyrics or anything.

As always, this CD is incomplete. The tracks 'Planet Schmanet, Janet' and 'Once In A While' are not included. (YES, I know 'Once In A While' is not in the film, but the scene is included in the laserdisc, and it would've been nice to include it here as well.) Will we ever see a COMPLETE TRHPS Original Soundtrack album?!?!?!?

This CD is a pretty nice collector's item, but the only way to obtain it is to purchase TRHPS 20th Anniversary Special Edition Laserdisc, and if you do not own a laserdisc player, it really is not worth the $124.95.

*****AVAILABILITY***** As I mentioned, this disc is only available in the TRHPS 20th Anniversary Special Edition Laserdisc. The Special Edition is currently in-print and not too difficult to find. I would recommend ordering it from Ken Crane's Laserdisc, the largest mail-order laserdisc store in the U.S. They sell it for $99.99, $25 cheaper than the suggested retail price.
